The Living Data Conference will take place from 21–24 October 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia, bringing together biodiversity networks, researchers, and practitioners worldwide to advance standards, promote interoperability, and measure progress towards conserving and restoring biodiversity.
As part of the event, B-Cubed will contribute to numerous sessions, including:
- The Essential Biodiversity Variables Cube: a standard for spatiotemporal biodiversity data (Session ID 6798781) is a workshop that will be held on 21 October from 11:15 AM. The workshop is going to focus on EBV standards and, more specifically, on the new EBV-Cube standard.
- Forensic Applications in Biodiversity Research: EUDR case studies and beyond (Session ID 6797423) will take place on 21 October from 11:15 AM and will include presentations on biodiversity mapping and analysing metadata.
- Long Live Biodiversity Data: Knowledge Transfer and Continuity Across Research Projects (Session ID 6788879) will be held on 22 October from 10:45 AM. The session will explore how research data can remain impactful beyond project lifespans through open data, effective science communication and international collaboration. You can find out more about B-Cubed’s presentation here.
- Hip to be cubed: using the new GBIF SQL Download API (Session ID 6799300-1) will take place on 22 October from 2:00 PM. The workshop will show participants how to use the species occurrence cube download service from GBIF.
- Beyond 2030: Building the Data Foundations for Biodiversity Action to support the KMGBF (Session ID 6798638) will be held in two parts - on 22 October and on 23 October from 10:45 AM. The session will include presentations on species occurrence cube implementation and on the b3gbi R package, which uses these biodiversity data cubes to calculate biodiversity indicators across time and space.
- Connecting the Dots: Integrating Animal Movement Data into Global Conservation Frameworks (Session ID 6803172) will take place on 23 October from 4:00 PM. The session will explore opportunities for integrating Move BON and associated workflows with the global community and to support a more comprehensive and dynamic global biodiversity monitoring system.
In addition, attendees of the conference can get to know the project by consulting the printed materials, which will be presented at the venue.
Registration for both in-person and virtual attendance is still open.
This year, the event will focus on three main themes:
- Building standards that promote data sharing and interoperability
- Bringing together and providing access to diverse sources of information
- Monitoring the progress towards conserving and restoring the planet’s biodiversity.
