Last week, at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, B-Cubed project coordinator Quentin Groom presented "Standardising biodiversity data for improved policymaking: Introducing the B-Cubed project" during the joint kick-off meeting of the GuardIAS and OneSTOP projects. He highlighted the urgent need for rapid, reliable, and repeatable biodiversity monitoring data to support policy decisions in response to the global biodiversity crisis.
Quentin outlined the opportunity to integrate biodiversity data from diverse sources locally and globally, ensuring timely and relevant insights for decision-makers. B-Cubed addresses this challenge by standardising access to biodiversity data, enabling policymakers to assess and respond to biodiversity change effectively.
The project advances policy alignment and evidence-based decision-making through automated workflows, cloud computing, and capacity-building efforts which could support the implementation of the two new initiatives. Case studies demonstrate how these solutions can enhance biodiversity monitoring and inform conservation strategies.
