Within the context of B-Cubed, GBIF is hosting a workshop on R packages on
7 November. This workshop is part of the B-Cubed educational series and contributes to the project’s objective of standardising access to biodiversity data and empowering policymakers to proactively address the impacts of biodiversity change.
As part of the ongoing educational series, an R package development workshop will guide participants through the essentials of transforming standalone R functions into fully functional R packages. The package is a bundled collection of R functions, data, and documentation, designed to make tasks like data analysis, visualisation, and statistical modelling easier to perform and share. This hands-on session, led by Damiano Oldoni from the Research Institute for Nature and Forest, Open science lab for biodiversity, is designed to equip participants with the theoretical and practical skills needed for successful package creation.
Throughout the workshop, participants will gain foundational knowledge in R package essentials, from structuring a package to using tools like devtools, roxygen2, and testthat for documentation and testing. The workshop’s agenda also covers best practices and offers references for continued learning in package development.
Anyone who expresses interest can register for B-Cubed’s educational series workshop on 7 November 2024 from 13:00 to 15:00 (CET) via this link.
