B-Cubed expands its collection of guides and tutorials

9 May 2025

B-Cubed’s redesigned Guides and Tutorials platform now offers an expanded collection of materials to support users working with biodiversity data. In addition to a clearer structure and improved navigation, the site features a growing range of tutorials aimed at researchers, data managers, policymakers, and technical users.

The updated platform includes step-by-step guidance on:

  • Specification for data cubes and their production

  • High-level requirements for software, computational tools and resources

  • A collection of R packages to calculate indicators from occurrence cubes

  • Tutorials for the GBIF SQL download API, a service to aggregate occurrence data

  • Spatial data handling and analysis techniques in R

  • Generalised Dissimilarity Modelling (GDM) in R

  • Google Earth Engine for conservation science

  • How to build a species occurrence cube from a GBIF checklist

  • Converting GBIF data cubes into cloud native data formats

Each section is designed to help users apply B-Cubed tools in practice—from building workflows and understanding model outputs to supporting biodiversity assessments and decision-making processes.

The site will continue to grow with new content and tutorials added regularly, following the progress and outputs of the project.
