B-Cubed's sister projects - FAIRiCUBE, AD4GD and USAGE - are gathering next week in Vienna for a workshop focused on intensifying collaboration on key topics such as Metadata, Data Provision, and Observable Properties. Hosted by FAIRiCUBE's partner - the Natural History Museum (NHM) Vienna, this workshop will serve as a platform to formalise the requirements for the Green Deal Data Space (GDDS). The outcomes will be developed into Policy Briefs, providing recommendations on each thematic area.
The workshop will take place in conjunction with the Open-Earth-Monitor Global Workshop 2024 in Laxenburg, just outside Vienna. It will bring together experts to ensure that the GDDS continues to support the European Green Deal’s objectives by facilitating the sharing of high-quality, interoperable datasets. These datasets are crucial for addressing global challenges, including biodiversity preservation, climate change mitigation, zero pollution, and the circular economy.
By interconnecting diverse, cross-sectoral data from private, public, and citizen sources, the GDDS aims to create a more unified data space for industries, governments, and researchers. Built on principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability (FAIR), the GDDS framework ensures that data holders retain control over access while fostering trust and collaboration across sectors.
This workshop marks an important step toward building a more robust and integrated data environment that will empower Europe’s green transition.
