The Spanish Government’s Ministry for Digital Transformation has drawn attention to the joint policy brief between B-Cubed, AD4GD, FAIRiCUBE and USAGE, as members of the EuroGEO GDDS Action Group. The policy brief was launched at an ESA 2025 side event organised with the support of the EC Booster tool in Vienna, and it gives a set of recommendations on guiding the successful implementation of the Green Deal Data Space (GDDS).
In its article, the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation outlines the Green Deal Data Space, which will be implemented through the SAGE project (The Data Space for a Sustainable Green Europe) and will abide by the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability), fostering the exchange of data between public and private entities during Europe’s green transition.
The Spanish Ministry’s report highlights that the policy brief ‘Unlocking The Full Potential Of The Green Deal Data Space’ can serve as a guide to the successful implementation of the Green Deal Data Space. More specifically, it addresses 5 major areas, which can be a challenge to the GDDS:
-
Data harmonisation
-
Semantic interoperability
-
Metadata and data curation
-
Data exchange and federated provisioning
-
Inclusive and sustainable governance
The conclusion is that, based on these recommendations and the preparatory actions in the GREAT project, an operational GDDS for European environmental data could be built by the end of 2027.
