B-Cubed has released an innovative R package that provides a powerful simulation framework for biodiversity data, known as occurrence cubes. This new tool enables researchers to investigate the variability of biodiversity indicators by simulating cubes under diverse scenarios, enhancing data-driven insights into biodiversity trends and policy impact.
Notably, the gcube package is the result of collaborative efforts during the project’s “Hacking Biodiversity Data Cubes for Policy” hackathon, held in Brussels in April 2024. At this event, experts and developers gathered to design tools that make biodiversity data more accessible and actionable for policy applications.
The new R package is now available on GitHub, where users can download it for application and exploration. For further details on its development and potential applications, interested readers can also access a comprehensive preprint on OSF Preprints. Tutorials are also available on the B-Cubed tutorials website. We invite researchers, data scientists, and biodiversity policymakers to delve into the package and provide their feedback on GitHub.
