Workshop on R Package Development: Empowering Researchers with Open-Source Tools

25 November 2024

On 7 November 2024, B-Cubed and GBIF hosted a hands-on workshop on R package development as part of the B-Cubed educational series. This session aimed to equip participants with essential skills for creating documented, reproducible,
and interoperable software—a key focus of the project’s goals to standardise biodiversity data access.

Led by Damiano Oldoni from the Open Science Lab for Biodiversity, the workshop featured live coding and practical demonstrations based on the B-Cubed software development guide. Open to the broader R community, the event attracted a diverse audience and fostered active engagement through a chat-based Q&A.

If you missed the event, a video recording of the workshop is now available, allowing anyone to benefit from this valuable training. Watch the recording to learn more about creating R packages and enhance your research workflows – here!

This workshop focused on the most critical aspects of moving from standalone functions to an R package. It prioritised hands-on experience while providing essential theoretical knowledge.
